Pa-ta-ka [2]

Short description

Pronunciation training

Category

LanguageSpeech and pronunciation

Group size

SOLO SMALL GROUPS CLASS

Duration

5 minutes

Level

2️⃣

Goal of this exercise is improving

  • the consonants p,t,k,

  • the different mouth positions of the individual vowels after these plosives.

In addition to accurate pronunciation, children learn responsiveness.

Instructions

The children say the following sequences of syllables in unison:

pa-ta-ka,

pe-te-ke,

pi-ti-ki,

po-to-ko,

Pu-tu-ku.

Consonants should be articulated as explosive sounds and vowels with a lot of muscular tension. All syllables are pronounced and repeated clearly and rhythmically.

The repetitions vary in expression and rhythm. In addition, the rhythm increases from turn to turn.

Variations

The children stand in a circle...

One child in the middle sets the tone, rhythm and speed for the group and uses the hands for reinforcement.

p,t,k are pronounced "breathy". To achieve this effect, imagine that you have a hot potato in your mouth. This increases the voicelessness of the sounds.

Tips
To illustrate, a sheet of paper can be held about 10 cm in front of your face: it should move jerkily if the consonants are articulated correctly.
