Little Hans [3]

Short description

Exercise to raise awareness of the importance of breathing volume

Category

LanguageBreathing

Group size

SOLO PAIRS SMALL GROUPS CLASS

Duration

3 minutes

Level

3️⃣

Goal of this exercise is improving

  • conscious breathing

  • the use of breath and speaking

  • the power and sound quality of the voice

The children learn that breathing can vary the voice and that good breathing is a prerequisite for having energy for speaking.

Instructions

The children stand in place or in a circle. The teacher announces that now the song "Hänschen klein" is to be spoken. But not as usual, with pauses for breath, but in one breath and as long as the breath lasts.

There are a few conscious, deep breaths. At the teacher's signal, all the children take another deep breath and begin to say the song "Little Hansen". Everyone starts again from the beginning until articulation is no longer possible because they run out of air.

Reflecting on this process strengthens self-awareness and sensitises the children to pay more attention to their breathing when speaking.
